Scholarships The Speedy Memorial Foundation Scholarship aims to help fund
the higher education of children of Law Enforcement Officers.

The window for scholarship applications opens January 1st and closes April 1st at 11:59PM. Eligible scholars must complete the online application and submit all supporting documents to the Speedy Memorial Foundation website. No applications will be taken after April 1st.

Scholarship recipients will be notified by email in June and awarded scholarships in July.

 

Scholarship Guidelines

Speedy Memorial Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2019 by the Espericueta family in McAllen, Texas to honor Jose Luis “Speedy” Espericueta Jr. The Speedy Memorial Foundation was instituted for funding higher education for children of Law Enforcement Officers. Scholarship awards begin at $1,000 for scholars. The numbers of awards are subject to organization funding. Each Scholarship application will be scored according to scoring guidelines by a separate panel of qualified volunteers. Criteria used for scoring includes: academic achievement, quality of essay, extracurricular activities.

Scholarship applicants must meet the following guidelines before applying:

The applicant’s parent must be a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Texas and reside in the Rio Grande Valley. The parent(s) can be active duty or retired Law Enforcement Officer.

 

2.

Applicant must be a high school senior or high school graduate who plans to enroll, or is already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational school.

A personal statement (maximum 500 words) stating educational goals and describing how being a child of a Law Enforcement officer has influenced you.

High School or College Transcript

Resume including any school and community activities
